Octagon

It was quite an eventful week that we have had at Dojo Burning Heart.
By this I mean the forced cancellation of the Boxing Gala in sports hall Kerkelanden.
The collaboration with Erik Ouwerkerk has shown many bumps in the course of time, but reached its peak last Sunday.
Don't go into details in this blog because it will only cause more unrest. Those who know me know that I normally don't turn my heart into a murder pit, but no matter how difficult it is for me, in consultation with Jerry I leave it at that.
However, I would like to let you know that the decision to cancel the Boxing Gala has been a hard blow for the boxers in question.

Let's get on with some better news, this morning Jerry wrote on facebook, I quote:
The mat in the Dojo has really turned red again after the all or nothing attempt with the Otopoets mega high-pressure sprayer! So I was able to postpone replacing it for a year and still have a nice sponsor pot of the last Lifetime abbo's so decided to give the Octagon the green light!! It will be 8 meters in diameter, will be 80 cm high and fencing will be 1.75 meters high. Get into the Crossfight room, make a 9 meter diameter cove, at least Daniel Van de Kamp, and kick out the 2 toilets as well because I want maximum space. Outside of the Octagon there will be all course parts and believe it or not but when everything is ready we will have even more parts, even more bags and finally a real fat UFC cage!! Is going to bring so much cool shizzle again!!!! Loving da dojolife

Almost at the same time, he placed a piece that went over our training ring. He described an event from the year 2011. I can remember this special happening as if it were yesterday. For my 65th birthday, I had received a bottle of whisky from my whisky club friends from the year I was born, 1946. Already let jerry know when receiving this bottle, it opens when there is something special to celebrate.
Thought the placement of this ring was quite an occasion where the bottle could be opened.
On a Sunday evening we went to the gym in possession of this special bottle.
Took out 2 glasses and after solemnly uncorking the bottle I poured more than 2cl. in.
By the way, 2 cl. is the standard size for a single malt.
Blissfully, we took a sip of this 40-year-old whisky and enjoyed the taste explosion in our mouths. For the connoisseurs, this whisky went into the barrel in the year 1946 and into the bottle in the year 1986, so it is 40 years old.
Quite a memorable moment for us as lovers of a tasty single malt.

It's been 6 years this month since we made the current Dojo.
It was a shell with only light in it, for the rest everything had to be done such as the changing rooms, sauna, office and desk.
With a bunch of friends and some professionals, we got this gigantic job done.
Of course I took pictures of the different phases of this construction and if you have more than 7 minutes to spare, this is the link from Youtube where the video is on.
