Memoirs Dojo Burning Heart

Hello loyal blog readers, it's Friday again so it's time for the latest news from Burning Heart. The holiday season has clearly arrived, although it is hardly noticeable in the number of visitors to our gym. Woke up early last week, around 4 o'clock, and usually I fall asleep again, but this time I was wide awake and for me I have to get up. Very annoying but then I also get out of bed because staying in bed is not an option for me. First step is to make coffee and then crawl behind my computer. I've been writing down the origins of Burning Heart for a while now, started as a blog filler when there is little to report and the beginning is on my blog today. Back to the early morning, I was working on the continuation of my memoir when the cameras caught my eye. It was around 5 o'clock in the morning and there were 10 people exercising, had never seen so many people working around that early hour.

Showers
Last week we were without hot water in the men's locker room for 2 days.
There had been a malfunction in the boiler that is supposed to provide hot water.
Now, as it turns out, the left shower has not been used for a while and the shower next to it spontaneously jumped on and off. Stuff has been ordered to fix that problem so that all 4 showers work properly again.

Memoirs
There is no more news from the Dojo at the moment so start with my memoirs regarding Dojo Burning Heart.

The beginning:

The founding year of Dojo Burning Heart was at a time when the crisis not only ravaged the Netherlands but asserted itself all over the world. We are talking about the year 1999.
The layoff of staff in all kinds of industries was the order of the day and it was precisely during that period that Jerry made the decision to start a gym, on a small scale but still. He had heard that there was a space for rent near his car cleaning company.
The building in question had been vacant for a while and seemed to Jerry to be the perfect opportunity to make one of his dreams come true.
I have no idea what used to be in it, but I do know that there was a kitchen on the site of the current dressing room. For the rest, it was an empty space that was reached by a rather steep but wide staircase. I go back in time, it was lunchtime at Otopoets and from the place at the table I had a view of the outside door. The large sliding door, say entrance to our company, was always lowered when lunchtime arrived, because of unwanted noise and a better view of who came in. This had to be done through a separate door next to the large entrance. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the door open and two people standing in the doorway.

Totally unknown to me and my first impression was not too good, now I have always been critical so I thought it must be me.
I called Jerry to tell him that there were people for him down in the workplace.
Moments later, he went down the stairs and a few seconds later went into his office with the people in question. Something that happened regularly and I didn't pay attention to it to go back to work a little later. The conversation Jerry had with these people lasted more than an hour and after they left he asked me if I wanted to come upstairs.
Dad, I have to tell you something, I've been thinking about starting a Dojo for a while now.
My first question to him was... what is a Dojo anyway?
After he explained to me what a Dojo represented, my next question was, where do you want to do that. He answered: I have been offered a space near Otopoets to make my dream come true and the two people who are just walking out the door are my two intended teachers. Their names are, respectively, Noël Twight and Joey Mézieres.

It took a while for it to sink in, and after it had penetrated my full consciousness, I was at a loss for words, as the expression goes.
Persistent like Jerry, he took me to the intended room a little later to show me a few things.
When we walked into that room, all kinds of thoughts ran through my mind and the main one was, what is this guy getting into in this time of crisis.
I also expressed that thought but in the typical way for Jerry he already had his answer ready, no one not even you can dissuade me from this.
Next question to him: what does your brother think of this? Dad, you are exactly the same, but Marco is positive about this and supports me with the idea of starting my own Dojo.
He soon realized that a rebuttal didn't help, so he accepted his idea.
Once inside, I was impressed by the space, although I couldn't imagine what it would look like.

So much for the start of my memoirs.

Until my next blog.
Dick
