Chloe

It's time again, dragged myself from the couch to my keyboard for my weekly blog.
Can't really get going this week while there is a lot of work to do on our new challenge. Luckily a couple of guys have signed up for the demolition work and must say it is progressing steadily. Normally by tomorrow the space will be ready to start building up by the weekend.
Saturday the electrician will start his work and right after the weekend our builder Daan van de Kamp.
Our plan is unchanged, the start date is October 1 and even if we start the 2nd week, it should work. So much for the progress of our ladies gym and dance event.

Strongmen Run
Of course I want to dwell on last Sunday, the Fisherman Friends run.

Announced shortly after the Strongman run in Wijchen on our site and extensively highlighted on Facebook.
The result surprised even us as initiators as the applications for this tough challenge poured in. In a fairly short period of time we had 82 applications for this run.
After brief discussions it was decided to give it a theme and that became Fight for Cancer.
Partly inspired by Maeva Lageba, who suffers from this disease but fortunately is on the mend, a campaign plan was drawn up which included a lottery and sponsorship of the run. Almost every day I talked to Daphne Maeva and almost every day she managed to get someone to sponsor her.
At the organization of the run we managed to get Chloë, who had to be at least 16 years old, to sign up with a signed letter from her parents.

Chloë, as the youngest participant, obviously caught the imagination and soon the first sponsorship offers came in which resulted in a final amount that exceeded € 2000.00.

But now to complete the run, given her previous performance at the Strongman run I did not doubt for a moment that she would cross the finish line. Afterwards unaware of the fact that she went through her ankle at the beginning of the run, which understandably for such a child seemed like a sledgehammer blow, she happily made it to the finish line with the help of her fellow runners and took almost all the obstacles.
The same thing happened to Jerry, during the run-in his knee played up and suffered quite a bit.
He briefly considered abandoning the race but Chloe and his attitude made him cross the finish line.
For the spectators like René Taling and myself there was little fun to be had, nowhere a bench to sit for a while. The map showed several "hot spots" but afterwards they turned out to be too far away to reach on foot. But no worries, all in all it was a successful day with all participants who made it to the finish line. Kudos to them for their achievement!!!
The day ended with a BBQ supplemented with Thai food which tasted delicious and went down like cake. Around half past 8 I plopped down on the couch feeling more than satisfied.
The following Monday I spoke to Twan who had taken his Go Pro with him during the run and fortunately I was able to put together a video. The link to this movie is the following:

Go Pro Twan
Until the next blog.
