Almost Ready! Kickboxing and the Fitness

It has been just under a week since the start of the Olympic Games. Now I personally am quite a sports freak, at least unfortunately not physically anymore, but my interest as far as sports on the tube are concerned covers a wide range. Because the times that ice skating, for example, is broadcast are quite pleasant for a retired person like me, and we have been at the top with this branch of sport for years, I enjoy myself very much in front of the T.V. I have little affinity with the openings of these kinds of games, but for the field work I am glued to the tube, at least as far as ice skating is concerned. I realize that the number of medals at the previous games was unique, but that we would get off to such a good start was something I could never have imagined.
The opening 3,000 meters for women on Saturday immediately became a full podium for the Dutch team. Gold went to an outsider, Carlijn Achtereekte, silver to Ireen Wust and the bronze went to Antoinette de Jong. The next morning, Sunday, the men's 5,000 meters was on the program.Who else than the dyed-in-the-wool favorite, Sven Kramer, ran off with the gold with in 2nd place a "half" Dutchman Ted-Jan Bloemen who competes for Canada. Monday the 1500 meters for women where Ireen Wust ran away with the gold plaque. The bronze was for Marrit Leenstra.
Tuesday morning was a very exciting day, with the 1500 meters for men. In advance a battle between Kjeld Nuis and Koen Verweij was expected but it turned out differently.
After a sublime race the gold was for Kjeld Nuis, the silver was claimed by the crown prince of Dutch skating, Patrick Roest. Wednesday the 1,000 meters was run which was won by Jorien ter Mors with a new Olympic record.
Thursday the 10,000 meters was on the program with favorite Kramer who could not live up to expectations, Ted-Jan Bloemen captured the gold.
You may be thinking why so much skating in this blog but the offer what Burning Heart was dealing with was very sparse this week so hence this long introduction.

Mess in the gym
Things went well for a while but early Monday morning I received a message via messenger, accompanied by a photo, that it was a mess at the dumble rack. There were quite a few weights here and there on the floor that could have been put back on the designated rack with a little effort.
Don't understand why people do this, surely it is such a small effort to put these dumbbells back in place, the rack is notebene in front of the supposed athlete. Now this happened during the night hours where things generally go well. Often in the daily overview I see familiar names passing by, on the night in question there were so-called athletes who were too lousy to clean up the dumbbells afterwards and of course took appropriate measures.

Kickboxing certificate
To return to the article on the kickboxing certificate.
In the article I deliberately wrote that the intention was to hold these exams before the end of the month. Because it is very short notice, we decided to schedule this special initiative after Jeremy's well-deserved vacation.
This will be somewhere in the second half of March.

Gym
The updating of the gym space is on schedule, this week the ceiling will be changed. Since we are short of rubber mats, these have been ordered and will soon replace the laminate flooring. The walls will also be painted the same color. The rearranging of the crossfight is taking a while because the man who is supposed to do this, Jerry, is too busy with his other business Otopoets.
It just doesn't stop getting busy there, and work is currently being done again on Saturdays to catch up somewhat. Since Jerry also takes care of Sunday Mass, we grant him the half Sunday off he has left.

Until the next blog
Dick
