Judo in the Naarden region

Respect and fun are paramount during class. Judo is called a martial art, but we see judo in the Naarden region more as a defensive sport. Classes consist of two parts; fall breaking and judo techniques. The fall breaking is learning to fall, the judoka learns to land on the mat without hurting themselves. The judo techniques consist of ground and standing techniques such as holds and throws.

Judo is a sport in which there is so much to learn that children will not quickly get bored of it. We also organize regular exams. We do this to teach the judokas to set goals and achieve them, which naturally provides motivation and self-confidence. And of course a whole lot of fun!

Master Stijn and Master Jasper do not expect every child to have a judo suit right away. That will all come later! Everyone can just put on what they feel comfortable in.

Rowing Champions

The romp champions are our judokas between the ages of 2.5 and 4. Toddlers are always busy; exploring, frolicking, climbing, scrambling and so on. It's all part of the game! During judo classes in the Naarden region, the children get all the space they need. Motor skills develop unprecedentedly fast and everyone makes new friends.

Some judokas climb all over the hall right away and some prefer to wait and see. Everything is fine! To increase the sense of fun and safety of the toddlers, the parents join us on the mat! And secretly, some parents enjoy it even more than the child itself. Isn't it a great outcome to spend half an hour frolicking with your own future judoka after a busy work week?

History

Judo is originally a Japanese defense sport developed by Japanese man Jigoro Kano. Jigoro used to be a small and slender man who suffered a lot; he was bullied a lot. Standing up for himself was not an option for him at that time; he didn't dare. When Jigoro was about 16 years old he started Jiu-Jitsu. He had heard that there you could learn how to beat a physically stronger opponent. Through the Jiu-Jitsu classes Jigoro took, he became physically stronger and improved his fitness, but most importantly, he became mentally stronger. Jigoro Kano's self-confidence began to grow; he began to stand up for himself.
Kano felt that Jiu-Jitsu had many good things going for it, yet he found that it could be harsh at times. He was often covered in Band-Aids and even got a nickname for this; "Bansoko" (the Band-Aid).

Kano thought things could be different and went to great lengths to develop a new sport. In 1882, he came up with the sport of judo. Unlike Jiu-Jitsu, judo is not about defeating your opponent, it is more like a game of how best to throw or control someone without injuring them.
In judo, you learn to use your opponent's strength to overpower him or her. Respect is one of the most important aspects.
