Judo in the region of Huizen

Gym Burning Heart has the most beautiful, largest and cleanest dojo in 't Gooi. Full daylight and ventilation, this space is a delight for both judokas and parents. From our restaurant you can sit and enjoy your child with a cup of coffee or a healthy meal.

Respect and fun are the two basic principles during judo classes in the Huizen area. The lessons consist of a number of components. An important part is learning to fall, in other words to break a fall. The judokas learn to land on the judo mat without hurting themselves. In addition, they learn many ground techniques and standing techniques. Learning holds and throws are certainly encountered in Burning Heart classes.

There is so much to learn that children don't quickly become bored with the sport. We also regularly organize judo exams. We do this to teach the judokas to set goals and achieve them, which naturally provides motivation and self-confidence.

What is judo?

Judo is originally a Japanese defense sport developed by Japanese Jigoro Kano. His goal was to develop a sport that posed no danger and would give great pleasure. Translated into Dutch, judo therefore means "the soft way. You use the opponent's strength to your own advantage. Self-control is central. Think of it as a game of control. This means you don't have to be physically stronger, you just have to be smarter and apply the right techniques.

History

Judo was developed by Japanese Jigoro Kano and is originally a defensive sport. Jigoro was a small and slender man as a child. He was bullied a lot but did not have the courage to do anything in return. When Jigoro was about 16 years old, he started Jiu-Jitsu. He had heard that during Jiu-Jitsu you can learn how to defeat a physically stronger opponent. Through the lessons Jigoro took, he became physically stronger and improved his fitness, but most importantly, he began to feel mentally many times stronger. Jigoro Kano began to stand up for himself.

Although Kano felt that Jiu-Jitsu had many good things going for it, he found that it could be tough at times. He was often covered in Band-Aids and even got a nickname for this; "Bansoko" (the Band-Aid).

Kano thought things could be different. After much training, he came up with the sport of judo in 1882. Unlike Jiu-Jitsu, judo is not about defeating your opponent, it is more like a game of how best to throw or control someone without injuring them. In judo, you learn to use your opponent's strength to overpower him or her. Respect is extremely important from both sides.
